Creator Update February 2015

Update May 19: Edit Settings page for Bundles correctly reflects no retail markup
Update Feb 26: Sticker base price change
Update Feb 19: Display-Only is available
Update Feb 10: Product review notifications are now live.

Update Feb 9: FAQ posted below

--

Brett’s IMVU in 2015 blog post talked about how we are committed to making improvements to the existing Creator Program and adding new opportunities for content creation. Many projects are planned throughout the year, and we are starting off by addressing some long-standing requests by YOU - our Creators.

--

Sticker Update Feb 26:

Thank you all for your feedback in response to our proposed sticker price limit. You let us know that you use stickers for a wide variety of reasons and we have listened.

We are not putting a price limit on stickers at this time.

We support our IMVU community and the ways you enrich your experiences and creativity. We will continue to discuss other ways to combat fraud via credit transfers.

We sincerely appreciate the discussion and your feedback on this topic. Please continue to enjoy IMVU to fulfill your creative instincts and share the results of those efforts with others.

--

As of February 19, 2015, the changes outlined in this post below are live. Please carefully read through the details below. The only change that affects any of your items today involves hidden products: if a product is hidden, you may not gift it until you change the item to visible. You can toggle the visibility at any time.

--

Continuing with our plan to address long-standing requests related to the Creator program, we are now allowing Creators to have “Display Only” products in their shops as of February 19, 2015. You have told us that you hide your custom products or meshes because you do not want them purchased accidentally, and Display-Only status allows items to be set as visible but unpurchasable. Display-Only items showcase the creations you are proud of but do not want to sell. Here are the 5 states of products in the IMVU catalog going forward:

UnpublishedNo change. An unpublished product cannot be seen/purchased/used except by the Creator of that product.
Published - No change. A product is sent to Peer Review upon publishing.
Hidden - Change: Going forward a hidden product cannot be gifted or purchased. If you need to gift it or make it available for purchase, it must be made visible first.
Visible - No change. Visible products can be purchased and gifted.
NEW: Display Only -- A display only product will be visible but will not show a price and cannot be purchased or gifted; you may derive from it if set to derivable.

Creators will be able to change the status of their products between hidden, visible and Display Only as and when needed.

How to Access the Display-Only Feature:

Display-Only is available within Create Mode in the 3D client. When you are done building your product in the Editor, click Upload and you will see the Display-Only option under Controls:

Click the Submit to Shop button and verify that your item says "Display-Only" on your product page. You will need to publish it, and it will need to pass Peer Review before it becomes available, just like all products.

If you would like your new submissions to default as Display-Only, you can do this via Account Settings:

(this can be useful if you have an alt dedicated to custom products)

What you can do with a Display-Only product:

--View the item in Shop or view its product page (customers, creator of product)
--Try it on in Shop
--Add it to your wishlist (but it will not be purchasable)
--View its derivation price in Create Mode
--Derive from it, if it is set to derivable
--Flag it
--View its Derivation Tree (if applicable)
--Wear it in Chat, if you already own the product
--Write a review for it, if you already own the product

You may set any of your products (products already in your catalog OR future submissions) to Display-Only.

What you cannot do with Display-Only products:
--View its price
--Purchase it through Buy Now, adding to Cart, or via a wishlist
--Add it to a gift list or directly gift it to a customer

Expected reasons to set a product to Display-Only:

--Custom products: Show off your skills while keeping your item unique and your customer happy. Set your custom items to Display-Only after gifting or selling it to your customer.
--Contest prize: Show off the grand prize or trophy for your contests while controlling who receives it (change product to visible before gifting).
--High-priced stickers, 3D products: You no longer need to set your items to high prices to discourage purchasing
--Meshes: Meshers no longer need to worry about plain meshes being purchased if they are set to Display-Only. If you set your product as Derivable and Display-Only, you can show off your new meshes while allowing your derivers to create new derivations.

Retail markup on product bundles has been removed

Creators make products to showcase a collection of items so customers can find and purchase them easily. To create a bundle, Creators add products to the Dummy Bundle, and submit the bundle to the Shop. Until now, the bundle’s total price was the sum of the prices of each item within the bundle, the derivation cost of the Dummy Bundle (304 Credits), *and* an additional 10% retail markup each of those items. You have requested this “double taxation” issue to be fixed and now it has been!

As of February 6, 2015, all bundles (previously submitted and new bundles) have had the 10% retail markup removed. You can see the reduced prices on your bundles right now. As seen on bundle Add HTML Description pages, the Retail Markup section is gone:

Add Actor tab has been made more accessible

Another popular request we have addressed is to make the Add Actor tab in Create Mode more accessible. Previously, this tab was found under the debug tab and thus hard to find. We presumed only our power-Creators used this feature to refine animations and ensure their new products functioned correctly. You told us that many of you frequently use the Add Actor feature and find it to be very useful.

In light of this, we have given the Add Actor tab a new, visible place in the Editor: it now resides in its own button next to the ‘debug’ tab.

If you haven’t tried it yet, or did not know about it, check it out by downloading the latest client pre-release (516.4 or above)! Read the Editor Tab tutorial (update in progress) in the Education Center to learn about Add Actor and start using it today.

Product review notifications

Update Feb 10:
Product review notifications are now live. You are not automatically opted into this, unless you have previously checked the box to receive Creator Communications. If you would like to receive email notifications each time a customer provides a review of your product, you may check the box in your Email Preferences, found in Account Settings. When opted in, you will receive an email like this one:

---

We are excited to work on these and other projects for Creators and hope you enjoy the end results. As a reminder, all updates to the Creator Program will be featured here in the Content Creator General Forum as well as Creator News.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

FAQ:

Q: Can you remove the 304cr derivation price on the IMVU Dummy Bundle/What about negative profit to reduce bundles even more?
A: Unfortunately, we are unable to remove the 304cr derivation price on the Dummy Bundle at this time; we do not want to risk fraudulent behavior from bad actors. Creators should not be able to add negative profits to bundles since it can cause issues when purchasing these products.

Q: Can you explain how the bundle pricing now works?
A: The 10% markup on bundles is what has been removed. Deriving from the Dummy Bundle to create a bundle means the 304cr derivation price is factored into the overall price. You can verify that your bundle does not include markup by calculating:
--the Dummy Bundle price (304cr)
--your bundle's profit (if you set a profit)
--the price of each item within the bundle

These numbers should add up to the wholesale price (not counting discounts) seen on the bundle page. I have yet to find a bundle that does not add up properly; please send me the PID of your bundle if you'd like me to check, I'm happy to do so. If there are anomalies with pricing, we'd like to correct them as soon as we can.

Please verify your bundle pricing using the Add HTML Description page for bundles; this page shows the correct pricing information.

Q: What about our other requests? Derivation banner, derivable wishlist, etc.
A: Rest assured that these popular requests have been noted, but are not currently on our to-do list. However, don’t let that stop you from posting suggestions here in CCGen or sending them to us directly!

Q: Why are you changing the functionality of “hidden”? Why do we have to make products visible to gift them now?
A: As some have mentioned, this is to curb bad actors gifting UFI products while they are hidden. If you’d like to gift your GA or AP items, you will need to make them visible, even if briefly. If you are a custom-product Creator and you want to ensure your custom creations can be visible to clients, you can continue to do what many others do: set your products as visible but with a high profit. Doing this allows you to gift your clients, and your profit will go back to your account.

Q: Will Display-Only products be derivable? Are you going to add a “Display-Only” dropdown option in the web catalog?
A Display-Only products are intended to be derivable, if you choose to set them as such; however, this project is still in development. We are working on the functionality and visuals for Display-Only right now and will update or request feedback as necessary in this thread.

Q: Will customers be able to try on Display-Only products in the Shop?
A: Yes, the intention is to allow your mesh or custom products to be seen by potential derivers and customers. If you do not want your products to be visible to try on in Shop, you can set these items to hidden.

Q: With the upcoming Display-Only changes, if you gift a product, can it still be set to hidden/Display-Only/visible?
A: Yes. But you cannot gift the product while it is hidden or Display-Only; you must first set it to visible.

Q:Why is the retail markup on Bundles showing on the Creator Reports page for a specific bundle?
A: The retail markups on the items within your bundle are correctly displayed. Any item within your bundle contains retail markup, and that has not changed. What has changed is that we no longer add retail markup for the bundle itself; you can verify this by looking at the “Add HTML Description” link on your bundle page.

Q: Can my customers review my products that are later set to Display-Only?
A: Yes. If your product has sales and you set it to Display-Only, your customers will be able to review it, and past reviews will be shown.

Q: How can I see the derivation cost of a Display-Only product? Display-Only products do not show a price.
A: Find the product you want to derive from, copy the PID (the last digits in the product page URL) and open up Create Mode. Click on Derive New Product and paste the number into the text box. It will populate the product’s information, including derivation costs.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank You!!! time 100!!!! As a furry dev the double mark up on bundles hurt so much. Thank you so much for finally fixing it!

Looking forward to the "Display Only". My question on this is would meshes set to Display Only be allowed to be derived off of? So people could derive things but not actually buy the base mesh (usually one that has a wire mesh for a texture or those helpful numbered textures)? Or will products need to be set for the normal sale option to be derived off of?

I am really happy about the notifications on reviews as well.

Very happy with these updates but i am curious why "Hidden - This exists currently but the way it works will change. Going forward a hidden product can not be gifted or purchased. If you need to gift it or make it available for purchase, it must be made visible first.

Why is that needed? why not leave hidden as is? If I get a request for a t shirt that says mona loves ralph. I probably wont want that "seen" in my catalog. Under display or anywhere else.

I think display will be a wonderful way to show off custom work that we are proud of but can not sell for various reasons but we also still need a place for custom work that we don't want seen. My couples pics of me and Matt i gift to him but we dont want everyone seeing them, those are ours

I am looking forward to this. Also I agree that it would be very cool if mesh could be set as display only, so that they can't be bought but worked off of. Will this work so long as the display only is set to derivable?
I ask because I know many of us have bought something by mistake, or been gifted a a mesh we added to our list to work on.
Either or I can't wait for these changes to take affect.

Faints Bundle pricing has finally been fixed?!?!? It is no longer a double-tax on the consumer? Is this Bizarro-IMVU? Wow.

PS. Can someone throw together some quick code to go through the bundles category and inform anyone who has only one product (ie, not a bundle) in there politely that they have miscategorized the product and suggest they remedy this to increase their product's sales by making them viewable in the proper category?

Hidden - This exists currently but the way it works will change. Going forward a hidden product can not be gifted or purchased. If you need to gift it or make it available for purchase, it must be made visible first.

Coming soon: Display Only - This will be added. A display only product will be visible but will not show a price and can not be purchased or gifted.

Now what would be really special is a Derivable Only setting. - This would ensure all those number texture meshes don't get gifted by mistake just because a creator has them on their wishlist as a reminder. It would be similar to your proposed Display Only setting but with derivability switched on.

So long as I can switch that setting. Creators do occasionally gift their meshes for product showrooms.

Katie already said that they will be able to be switched as needed just like you can now. There's no change there, just an extra setting is proposed.

^ THIS PLEASE. Nothing drives me more insane than some cheapo gifting me a derivable since its the least expensive thing in my list.

Really though, THANK YOU.
